Wildcats win SWC

By DEAN KEELING

Neosho Daily News Sports Editor

NEOSHO - Tyler Chaney poured in 16 points and Evan Griffith had 13 as the Neosho Wildcats closed out their regular season with a 60-50 Southwest Conference varsity boys basketball victory over the McDonald County Mustangs on Tuesday (Feb 18).
The Cats finished the regular season with a
24-1 record and a perfect 8-0 mark in the SWC. This is the third consecutive season the Wildcats have won the SWC title. Last year the Cats were 7-1 and the previous season they were 8-0 for a combined 23-1 over the last three seasons in the SWC. The Wildcats were ranked 46th in the nation in the latest Hoops-USA poll.
Trent Barratt popped in 11 points and Jon Branscum had 10 for the Wildcats while Braden Ham and Eva
Keeling chipped in four points each and Phil McClintock added two points.
"It was nice for our seniors to go out on a winning note and finish the season with a win at home and an undefeated record in the SWC," said Neosho Head Coach Denny Chenoweth. "I thought Evan Griffith had a real good game, especially in the third quarter. It was nice that all of our seniors got in the game and contributed. Now we need to focus on the District Tournament and get ready to play Joplin next week."
